OK. If it was a crash triggering this problem then the problem may come
and go. And moreso for some people than others.
Per the original reporter in comment #20 this bug is being marked as
fixed. Anyone else experiencing problems still please open a new bug by
running:
ubuntu-bug gnome-shell

I didn't encountered the bug any more in the last 7 days. It could have
been fixed by some ubuntu updates (at least on my system).

elatllat, that request was for Div mainly. But also please don't use any
'kill' commands between 'pidof' commands because it makes that test
useless.

Please do that again, but without rebooting.
We need to check if the numbers are changing during the same boot before
and after the bug occurs. If they do change without rebooting then the

I thought the bug has been patched with the last update since I didn't
encounter it yesterday. However, it reappeared today.

I had rebooted after this and didn't check the PID. The bug reappeared today

the dock on login screen issue and could well resolve the other
problems. it would also be good to know if those having the problem use
extensiosn and which
I think I have the same bug;
- dock is visible in the login screen
- after login the dock jumps around on mouseover
- attempting to lock the screen will make the UI unresponsive and the window
with the lock option will get blurry

I tested pidof gnome-shell before and after the bug occurrence but the
answer is the same. Please find attached two screenshots of login screen
before and after bug occurrence. After the bug occurrence the dock is
visible in the login screen.

This bug also started affecting me since a couple of weeks ago. Gnome
shell extensions appear as switched on in gnome tweak but they are
actually disabled. I noticed the bug appear more or less randomly after
recovery from suspend or even from black screen. Resuming from black
screen the shell them
I can only imagine this might be caused by suspend/resume crashing the
gnome-shell process, and then it restarts (almost seamlessly) with a
slightly different config.
Please run this command before and after suspend/resume:
pidof gnome-shell
