Disabling 'desktop icons' from the extensions app did not work for me, but
renaming the
folder /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/desktop-icons@csoriano did the trick.
The extension was already disabled.

It appears in 20.04, both desktop-icons and ubuntu-dock are to blame.
You can only solve the problem by removing both simultaneously. I guess
they're both trying to redraw during the new unlock animation?
