Public bug reported: the autofill forms and passwords does not work anymore although one is logged into google account. opening the settings|passwords shows an empty list of username\passwords for sites. nevertheless, clicking on the link [sic] to the passwords in the google account shows they are all stored remotely, just the sync somehow fails to get them over and store them locally. might be $HOME access problem (again).
