Just in case this can help anybody. On Ubuntu Studio 20.04 (Xfce), headphones
audio started to work after I selected "Audio mixer..." -> "Input Devices" ->
"Headset Microphone (plugged in)".

In my laptop the 'headset' mode makes the headset totally unavailable, both the
speaker and mic. The 'headphone' mode is okay with headset speaker and laptop
internal mic.
And I do think that there should be the same POPUP-DIALOG for user to
choose in KDE and Xfce4 environment. I

My problem is different from the comment you provided, LOL.
1. I'm using Kubuntu. Kubuntu DOESN'T HAVE the POPUP-DIALOG because KDE
environment uses PulseAudio to manage audio system. When a user plug in a
headset there are no options to choose from, the program sets it automatically.
