The printer was recognised and installing apparently OK. It would successfully print one print job, but would then appear to have disconnected. Physically unplugging and replugging the USB cable would cause it to "reappear" and function normally ... but again, only for one print job. tail \var\log\syslog as follows: === Dec 8 11:10:07 paul-desktop-linux HP_LaserJet_P3005?serial=CNK1C68797: io/hpmud/dot4.c 231: unable to read Dot4ReverseReply header: Resource temporarily unavailable bytesRead=0 Dec 8 11:10:07 paul-desktop-linux HP_LaserJet_P3005?serial=CNK1C68797: io/hpmud/dot4.c 319: invalid DOT4InitReply retrying command... CUPS now shows the device URI as usb://HP/LaserJet%20P3005, and consecutive jobs appear to print normally. Although this works, I have no idea WHY it works, and (perhaps unfairly) assume some problem in hplip. -- Paul Stanley To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/306204/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
