Title:
gnome-terminal corrupted character display at the VIM cursor ?25I

Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

  Ubuntu 9.04 gnome-terminal

  Repro:
ssh into an HPUX box and run vim

When you enter Insert mode the some characters will be displayed on top of
the cursor: '[?25I ' and these characters _appear_ highlighted. The second
character '[' appears to overlap the the previous character a little and is
cutoff by the next character.
When you hit Esc to return to command mode and move the cursor, the same
characters are displayed but they will not be highlighted.

This also occurs when scrolling, and typing in insert mode.

  Details:
These characters are not in the vim buffer, and will usually disappear if you
resize the window.

Highlighting the characters that appear highlighted inverts the colors (on my
grey on black screen they become white on black)
Highlighting the non-highlighted characters appears normal.

Changing the 'text' color in profiles affects all characters, and no
other palette changes affect any characters.

  Testing:
   HPUX PA-Risc 11.00, vim 7.2
   HPUX IA64 11.31, vim 7.1

  Ubuntu 9.04 fully patched
  gnome-terminal:
    Installed: 2.26.0-0ubuntu2.1
