Still current as of 12.10: the /etc/mailcap file contains the wrong entries. The string "-no-oosplash" should be replaced with "--nologo" then everything works. Version and status of relevant packages: $ env LC_ALL=C dpkg -l libreoffice* | egrep ^i ii libreoffice-base-core
