I updated to 11.10 and Unity-2D and LibreOffice crashes have ceased.
Still have the antialiasing option turned off, so that could also have
been the fix.

Running on a Thinkpad X1 (sandybridge) I was experiencing random crashes
of libreoffice (impress and writer) until I disabled the antialiasing
after which I have not experienced a single crash. To verify this was
the cause I turned antialiasing back on and sure enough the problem
returned.

To clarify, in LibreOffice 3.3.4, in the Options menu, under View,
should I have:
* Graphics Output - Antialiasing turned OFF
* User Interface - Screen font antialiasing turned ON (from 1 pixels)
Is that correct?
