Yes, this is still an issue. I am not able to disable/enable touch pad
at all with keys. The indicator light also doesnt glow.

Also I noticed today touchpad works on login screen but stops working
after login.
this also look like a dupe from bug #868400 , this is the classic case of the
gnome session is disabling the touchpad on startup (on gdm you dont have gnome,
so it works)
you can also try to create a new user and

synaptics touchpad doesnt enable after disabling from fn+f6 key on
Another observation, it works for few seconds soon after it wakes up
(from suspend) and then stops working.
