This sounds similar to the issue described here:

A workaround that solved the issue for me was to disable the MTP plugin.

Unfortunately that doesn't produce any output.
I ran:
banshee --debug
Then I connected the device. Banshee works for a few seconds until the
ubuntu dialog "What do you want to do" flashes and then it becomes
unresponsive.
Then I run in a different terminal:
killall -SIGHUP banshee

Weird. Your log doesn't seem to have any indication of a fatal error causing a
crash. Is it complete, as in, is it the full --debug output including the crash?

I just experienced the same on my system:
IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T61 - running Ubuntu 10.10
I attached my Droid BIONIC Android phone to the USB cable while running Banshee
...
it immediately crashes! Duplicatable, repeats the same every time, no matter
what mode I use when connecting:
