I have noticed that if my volume is muted when I login I have the
problem but if I unmute the volume at the login screen it seems to work
fine. When reboot my volume is frequently muted for some reason.

Same issue as well... NM shows connected, I receive a DHCP lease... but
attempting to ping anything other than my local interfaces is a fail.
I've tried to narrow it down to kernel versions, backported wireless,
etc... nothing helped.
I did notice after first installing 12.04, network manager exh
I have the exact same problem. The workaround mentioned here works after
several attempts!
