Public bug reported: When evince has a document open with a certain number of pages, say n, and the document file is then altered/replaced on disc by a document file with less pages, say n - k, the following error message is printed on stderr (or stdout)
(In my case I rebuild the document using pdflatex invoced from emacs to rebuild the pdf. And sometimes a new version is shorter than the previous one) "(evince:2497): EvinceView-CRITICAL **: ev_page_cache_get_annot_mapping: assertion `page >= 0 && page < cache->n_pages' failed". I would assume that when reloading the document some information about the number of pages is not updated properly. I noticed no other problems other than the message.
