I was wrong. The problem I experienced was not being able to click in
the Java applet at all, and I think that is another issue with just my
laptop. Thus I close this bug and consider opening another about the
frequent crashes.

A workaround in Chromium seems to be to open its internal task manager,
close the Icedtea plugin and then reload the web page with the Java
applet.
