This happened to me after upgrading to ubuntu 18.10 , i was previously
using the PPA version and the upgrade commented it out, it then
installed a newer version of remmina during the upgrade. to fix this i
needed to uncomment the ppa definition in my
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/remmina-ppa-team-ubuntu
As per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/remmina/+bug/993981/comments/7.

As per rich, killing remmina in the background and re-running allows it
to find an rdp .so installed after remmina's first run. A reboot should
also fix this (I think).

ht
had some problem, trying "sudo remmina" and it worked with rdp support,
then made 777 to /usr/lib/remmina/plugins/remmina-plugin-rdp.so and now

Here is my series of commands that solved my problem. Unfortunately, I
seem to have lost the version of xfreerdp that works with RDP Gateways.
I may have to just do without a GUI and write up a bunch of little
scripts for each connection so I have that feature available.
dpkg -l |grep freerdp
Here ubuntu 13.04 amd64
#14 enlighted me.
doing a
dpkg -l | grep freerdp
apt-get purge ...
disabled remmina ppa
apt-get update; apt-get install remmina
resolved. Thanks!
