To Stamatis, Not exactly. My initial thought was giving the physical operator the abiity to customize and fully control physical property derivation strategy, thus can further help the purpose driven trait request. But since we agree to think more high-level API to support on-demand traitset

Definitely agree that this has been a long time missing. I've been challenged by this absence since before Calcite was Calcite. I also remember the trials and tribulations around this that Jinfeng references above. In general, I think the first thing one might want to before actually doing this

In Apache, a project (i.e. a PMC) is defined by a community, not by a piece of code. Is the Avatica community sufficiently separate from the Calcite community that it wants to govern itself? (In my opinion it is becoming more separate, but not there yet. I would like to hear what others

If we want Avatica to be truly independent, then yes, it would have to be it's own TLP with a separate PMC. (Avatica could not otherwise make releases and follow other processes without going through the Calcite PMC.) I think there are several other TLPs with less activity than Avatica, so I don't

[DISCUSS] State of the project 2019

2019-10-20 Thread Francis Chuang
It's the time of the year where we are nearing Calcite's graduation (birthday) on October 22! It's been a really busy year for Calcite and we've added quite a few committers to the project with a total of 44 committers on the project. We have seen 3 releases so far for Calcite this year, with

I think Michael and Julian's proposals are all good ideas. Regarding moving Avatica to an independent project, what is the process for doing so? Does this process turn it into a TLP with its own seperate PMC and PMC Chair? My only concern is that work on Avatica is not as active as Calcite

Thanks to those who have made some headway during the last week by reviewing and merging PRs. Would early November be ample time for a rc0? If more time is needed to review and merged the current PRs on Github, please let me know. Francis On 11/10/2019 8:06 am, Francis Chuang wrote: Thanks,
