I thought the same thing but had forgotten how long it took us to stabilize 5.0
to GA. Looks like we're just over 12 months since we released that so maybe
we're not *that* overdue.

It'll be 6.0.
At some point we will cut the release branch cassandra-6.0, and likely at the
same time cut a 6.0-alpha1 release. How long it takes to stablise that branch
to GA is unknown, but there are typically a few alpha releases, a few beta
releases and a few rc releases first.
