My 2 cents.
The question is, does the current behavior work for some people or is
this a flat-out bug? (This is a general question applicable to any
incompatible change).
If the current way of working is broken then providing an incompatible
fix is OK IMO. If the current way can work for so
. It will of course break backward
compatibility though, because you pass an entirly different path to the binding
impl, but I dont see any way around this. IMO its better to make the custom
bindings actually useful instead of just keeping compatibility.

I think there is an issue with patch id=12443. Instead of modifying
CustomJXPathBindingBuilder, this patch replaces it with CustomJXPathBinding.
