To Whom It May Concern: I'd like to introduce myself and express my interest in helping with the composition of the User Guide for OpenOffice.org. First and foremost, I have no experience in technical writing. I do, however, have a desire to learn how to sharpen my detail-oriented writing skills. Just as I am detail-oriented in my writing and my general approach to life, I am not blind to the "big picture." In other words, I do not get so lost in the details that I forget my overall objective. I believe my writing and life approach clearly demonstrate one reason why I am a good candidate to work on this project.
Second, I know firsthand that sticking with such a project can be overwhelming and grueling, yet equally rewarding when the task is complete. I consider my greatest accomplishment to be finishing my B.A. in Psychology at San Jose State University. Yes, completing my degree involved a lot of hard work, dedication, and motivation. Despite hours of sweat and tears, I stuck with what I had initially wanted to accomplish. The end result was not only a piece of paper (i.e., my diploma), but a tremendous feeling of relief that all of my efforts had finally paid off. Last but not least, I would like to volunteer some details about who I am as a person, which I believe would be a great asset to this project. In addition to being detail-oriented, I enjoy reading non-fiction materials such as cookbooks, self-help books, professional journal articles, and magazines. I am currently taking a break from my doctorate program to get some real world experience under my belt. I anticipate I will be on hiatus from school for at least one year, perhaps more. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, traveling, reading, blogging, and training my new kitten to behave himself. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself.
