Can you make sure the configuration properties are all setup fine? Memory
especially. I believe drill ships with a low default memory setting.

When I was working on generating parquet files for testing drill and
parquet I did use parquet-compat, but that project has since been
abandoned. So it may not contain the latest changes in parquet.
Parquet-mr looks more promising.

@Jacques,
I doubt these were ever checked in.
And I dont think they were using the s3 method to download as well.

Thanks for publishing this. This will go a long way to pushing drill
quality further and increasing community participation.
Small gripe, was there no way to publish this by preserving the commit
history? There were a lot of people who contributed extensively to this and
it would have been nice to
to download data before they execute.

Sorry,
Did not realize you had covered that as part of the original discussion.

The homogenous check- Will it be just checking for types are homogenous or
if they are actually types that can be read by drill?
Also, is there a good way to determine if a file can be read by drill? And
will there be a perf hit if there are large number of files?

As someone who worked on this for a while, including it as part of drill
may bloat drill a bit too much. Also not a big fan of running against an
embedded drillbit. Does not replicate an actual production use case.
Additionally, setting up hive hbase and other components maybe painful and
