How about providing a symlink such that we essentially provide paths for
both 'gfsh' and 'geode' to make script transition easier.
I'd agree with Edin on his point #2. I don't think a banner of:

Well, concerning #4, there will be differences in the command-line
interface (as perceived by users), particularly for the Gateway/WAN
(command) support.

My reasons:
1. There is no legal requirement (or any other for that matter) to change the
name
2. The argument for distinguishing between a geode and gemfire installation is
weak. Some of us have and switch between multiple installations of GemFire all
the time. There

Existing users and customers of GemFire could create a link/alias or maybe
Pivotal can do it as part of packaging the product so nobody has to change
anything in the current setup.

I think gosh stands for Geode functional shell. Or some other friendly
word. We're going to drive our existing customers crazy with all this
package changing and script changing. Citigroup has 53 Gem fire apps
comprising many thousands of lines of code. We're trying to force them to
change all of

The alternative would be gsh (/gee-shell/)... Which really starts
playing in the realm of /i-*/ and it brings up childhood memories of

So I'd vote for /gfsh/ but at the same time... we might need something
that both incorporates Geode and GemFire..
The problem with leaving it as "gfsh" is that you already have a "gfsh"
symbol link that points to a _gemfire_ installation. If you name the geode
shell distribution as "gfsh", then when you need to switch from geode to
gemfire you will have to have a mechanism to overwrite or update the

I run _both_ gemfire and geode on my laptop and I found this gfsh conflict
early on. I created a symbolic link named "geode" and pointed it to the
geode gfsh binary. I then just say "geode start locator ...", etc.
I thought of other alternatives but "gesh" wasn't doing it and so I just
left it "
I think we should just leave it as gfsh. If anyone asks what the F stands
for, just stare at them blankly :)

In Pivotal GemFire, the tool is called Gfsh (pronounced "G-fish", meaning
GemFire Shell).
Perhaps, we can call the Apache Geode "Shell" tool... "GOSH".
I would say "geo
