We had a hbase dev pow-wow yesterday and these changes a topic of
conversation.
The current consensus was to have 1.0.0 have the classical deploy style
with HM's and RS's, and to hopefully branch 1.x soon so that trunk (aka
2.0-SNAPSHOT) can make deploy modifying changes.
The new ports were not
bq. some changes on the -ROOT- usage and I wonder if the trunk
documentation reflects those change?
In trunk documentation, -ROOT- is mentioned alongside .META. in a few
places.

Hello,
A few (3?) months ago, trunk was still acting the classical way in case
of a single HBase node relying on HDFS (see config in [1]), meaning that
both HMaster and HRegionServer were needed (clearly visible via ps -ef
or jps).
Today, it seems that the HMaster acts also as HRegionServer.
Eric:
Take a look at HBASE-10569.
Cheers

Thx Ted, I missed that one - This mitigates my surprise.
I built the hbase book (mvn site), and it seems to me that it is not
documented. Is it the case? I also remember some changes on the -ROOT-
usage and I wonder if the trunk documentation reflects those change?
Cheers, Eric
