I don't think this ticket should be closed. it still happens in 4.3.4.
like stated in the above comments when calling what seems to be a depracted
method
org.apache.http.conn.ssl.SSLConnectionSocketFactory.createLayeredSocket set
socket timeout is never called on the created socket
