I definitely like the idea of having our first Apache Release.
The questions in my mind are largely related to what is the scope of the
release, and why is it an alpha release?
We had a stable MADlib 1.8 release prior to incubation into Apache.
- If the goal is getting our first Apache release a
Great seeing the prototype work here, I'm sure that there is something that
we can find from this work that we can bring into MADlib.
However... It is a very different implementation from the existing
algorithms, calling into the madlib matrix functions directly rather than
having the majority of
Welcome Xiaocheng! Based on the contributions you've already made it's

PGXN recently came up in a discussion I was having with respect to MADlib
and I wanted to post some information here to the dev list for the
community to consider.
PGXN, the PostGres eXtension Network, is a portal/tool that provides easy
access to common Postgres extensions, similar to CPAN for pe
Hi ChenLiang,
Thanks for taking the next step to flush this out.
As a whole:
- naming and basic interface seems consistent with existing conventions.
- names are descriptive.
- references to the literature is provided.
- functionality is complementary to the library.
What is not clear to me is:
This is one place, however I'd have to look at the LO API to understand if it
gets past the memory allocation limitation, and then we'd have to discuss
design of implementation and whether it would be implemented both in GPDB and
HAWQ - which would be a requirement for MADlib.

Thanks Ted.
Echoing some of the followup discussion we had over on the HAWQ mailing
list Roman suggested doing something similar to what Groovy did, i.e.
incorporate a maturity model document into our code and review it around
how we can continue to make improvements and move the project towards

Indrajith,
Thank you for your interest in joining the MADlib project.
Based on your followup questions I'm guessing the question is more about
"how do I understand the code of the project" and less "what are the
mechanics of contributing" to an Apache project.
You might want to start by reading
The MADlib report has been posted.
