I created an issue for the eclipse plugin (http://jira.codehaus.org/secure/ViewIssue.jspa?key=MPECLIPSE-25)
Later I realized that is was inlcuded in issue http://jira.codehaus.org/secure/ViewIssue.jspa?key=MPECLIPSE-1
So I decided to stop mumbling and actually do somthing, there is a patch on MPECLIPSE-25 that solves both issues,
it is to the HEAD of maven-plugins/eclipse
if someone could review it and apply it I'd be very thankfull.
