Hello NetBeans devs,

this is just a reminder that NBI, the old NetBeans installer is de facto deprecated and essentially no longer maintained.

NBPackage[1] is used to produce most "convenience binaries" you can find on the download page[2] and also for the linked community installers which bundle a runtime JDK.

NBI is only (somewhat) functional on windows at the moment and would have required extensive rewrites to bring it to a maintainable state, which never happened.

NBI will lose the "downloader" package soon[3], so that NB is build- and testable on JDK 23. Neil, Matthias and me looked at other options, but all came to the conclusion that removal was the least risky and most time efficient option.


Please check out NBPackage if your NetBeans application is still relying on NBI,

if nbpackage is missing a feature you would like to see, consider getting involved!
