I also experienced this (and a bunch of other issues which I reported to
JIRA... some others I fixed in the 1.18 release branch and tag and will
backport to master branch) whilst working on the RC.
Same as Jorge, I also pruned the ivy cache and it resolved the dependency issue.

Thanks Lewis for taking care of this release.
I verified checksums, build passes, tests passes. Did a small crawl and indexed
to solr and elastic and worked fine.
Thanks

Tested / verified:
- good signatures
- source package builds and unit tests pass
- successfully ran a crawl from the bin package
(500 pages, indexing to Solr)
Thanks, Lewis!
One point (not a blocker): In recent releases we didn't ship a MD5 signature
following the recommendation in

Here's my +1 on RC 1.8
Thank you Jorge for the tip, it compiled and I did some basic
crawling/parsing on a few thousand URLS, it seems to be working, I
don't have a working instance of Solr at this moment tho.
Thank you Lewis for pushing this forward and for everything you do!

I ran into a similar issue (while reviewing a PR, not while reviewing the
1.8 RC), removing my ivy2 cache:
rm -rf ~/.ivy2/cache/
seemed to do the trick. TBH I hadn't built any Java on this machine in a
while and I'm not even sure in which state the cache was.

- Tests pass
- Clean build succeeded (from branch-1.8, Java 1.8)
- Checksums matched
A small crawl of a few pages went fine too.
Thanks for taking care of cutting an RC Lewis!
