After reading the samples and other discussions about a new book, I have
purchased and downloaded the PDF version of

   "Badass: Making Users Awesome"

There is a sample on the O'Reilly web page for the book, at
<http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920036593.do>.
Scroll down the page to "Related Content" where there is an image of the cover
and a page with a clover leaf. That provides the PDF of an useful extract that
explains the emphasis of the book.

The preview of another section of the book is available at
<http://www.oreilly.com/free/badass-making-users-awesome.html>.

I think this book could be valuable in having it be our users (including
contributors) be awesome in their experience with Apache OpenOffice and the
project.

You may find the format of this book, based on the "Head Start" approach
pioneered by the author, awkward or even trivial. I know that it is too easy
for me to read through this format very quickly and be left with nothing. I
need a way of progressing through this book that includes much reflection and
application to situations of concern to me.

For finding value in the context of the Apache OpenOffice project, I would like
to engage with others in a reading group where the book is worked through
chapter by chapter and we examine how the lessons of the book apply to
different users and contributors to the Apache OpenOffice project.

I am interested in appraisals of the free preview material and also suggestions
of how to organize and conduct a reading group specifically around how this
could be applied for AOO.

MORE INFORMATION

I don't know how availability of the electronic version works outside of North
America.

In the US, it is valuable to create a free O'Reilly online account. Account
holders receive information about discounted availability and there are regular
discounts for subscribers. I used the buy-one, get-one-free code available to
subscribers to buy the Badass book and one other with 50% off on the
combination. I always have my eye on O'Reilly eBooks and this was a way to get
another book of interest at the same time.
