Building serf with scons, but missing gcc?

Hello all, I'm trying to build serf 1.3.9 with scons 3.0.5 on Linux where the toolchain is at /pkg/bin like gcc, as and co. PREFIX=/pkg of course. $ scons PREFIX=$PREFIX APR=$PREFIX APU=$PREFIX OPENSSL=$PREFIX scons: Reading SConscript files ... Checking for GNU-compatible C compiler...no scons:
