I've been tweaking the Gradle build on trunk; I haven't put those
things back into the 5.3 build. There's simplifications and
improvements, also the generation of .md5 checksum files for the
sources and javadoc jars, and the generateRelease target now copies
those up to people.apache.org for you.
Are the bits available in a Maven repo where I can get at them? I'd love to
see a 5.3.2 release (for Spring 3.1 support), but I'd also be happy with a
public snapshot.

No snapshots at the moment AFAIK, we should probably clone the trunk
CI build to cover the 5.3 branch.
