Yep, that's how I do it. Only difference is I don't enable automatic imports
as it fires off while I'm still hacking on the pom which I find annoying. I
prefer to click the "Import now" link.
Minor preference.
I'll see if I can get some time today to hack on the poms and switch us to an

whole world comes in to say hello (takes a while even on a fast machine).
Also enable automatic imports in the intellij maven settings.

I see what you mean now - As shade only works at the 'package' phase there is
no way round this other than to use your approach - An external project
dependency. Dammit
