Check the backlight cable. A darker than normal display is usually caused by
backlight cable not properly inserted, in turn caused by shipping or incomplete

The XO-4 display has a much brighter backlight. It proved impossible to find

My guess is that the gconf setting has been changed anyway; can you
confirm by doing "gsettings get" on it?
Does the "gsettings set" work in a Terminal activity started from

Or it is a matter of decoding the source code for dconf to find

won't be met in an XO-1.5.
Cards marked with I or II, for UHS-I or UHS-II, won't work any better
than the equivalent card without those markings.
SDXC cards are not obliged to work, but if they do they will fall back
to SDHC compatibility mode.

The same seller has a more appropriate adapter for a lower price:

There are now very many alternative adapters that are compatible.

Don't know what else was said, was off-list, but my suggestions are:
- run the XO Self Test, because this will test the thermal binding
between the CPU and the heat spreader,

- tell us if the problem happens when on

Sugar does lack a scripted method to discard network history. That

needed for the starting animation and Frame and Alt-Tab.
Do add a limited retry. Sugar can take longer to start sometimes, and
a race condition would be irritating.

.xsession can work, if your subshell will give Sugar time to start,
then copy environment variables from the Sugar shell process, then run
sugar-launch.
Don't know a best awy. Some deployments have used an automatic start
activity.

How do the journal, olpc-dm logs, and X logs differ between working
and failing case?
Where does gdb show the segmentation fault occurs?
