The PMIx community took a different approach than Open MPI: they chose not to embed local copies of hwloc and libevent. In Open MPI, we embed local copies of hwloc, libevent, and PMIx, and use those if they cannot otherwise be found on the local system. We here in the Open MPI community cannot

There were a number of compilation errors for 32 bit environments in PMIx. I don't know what they are offhand, but if you get compile errors when building PMIx in 32 bit environments, that's the errors that need to be fixed. Also, note that PMIx is technically a different community than Open MP
