immediate release (and we really need to do an immediate v1.8.1 release). MTT

As several of you know, we have had a report of a rather nasty bug in the 1.8.0
release - only manifests itself if you run as root, but some people
unfortunately do so. This necessitates that we release 1.8.1 with that bug fix
in the next week.
