The compilation errors are due to not being pulled in -
not sure why (yet - did I mention I am a newbie at C, make etc ?) but
brute force inclusion of the required typedefs got me past this.
Got stuck on a loader/linker error which I will put a a new thread.

I am following the "Detailed Setup document" as recommended. I have
built a 2.6.23 kernel starting with a Ubuntu 8.04 base and it seems OK.
