I've done some work on porting the vfb device to new device driver
interface. See:

Its mostly there ... GNOME seems to run fine on it, for example. There
are a few things that remain to be done, though:

Open a bug on http://bugs.xfree86.org/
you can post a description, patches, and comments. Other users can try
your code, and when it's ready, one of the xfree86 developers can
commit it to the cvs tree.
