Hi
I work in a company that uses Baan and Axapta to write Payroll and HR
software. I was writing software and administering Baan on Unix(Baan4)
and AS400 (Baan5). It works perfect. Although it was low level Unix-SCO
Unix and free Bann database: 'Baanbase' we didn't have any problems.
Most of our clients use this configuration and there are no complaints.
One of our clients have Solaris with Baanbase and calculate 12 000
employees using our Payroll and HR package and they don't face any
problems. We had only one client using Baan with Windows but they had
to many problems with SQL Server and they have finally get rid of
Windows and went into SCO Unix. The hardware requirements are low and
is very stable. Problem is that Baan has much more simple programming
language. You cannot be so flexible while programming. Axapta uses
object language X++ which is a combination of C++ and Java. In
comparison Baan uses script programming.
If you want to do software in Baan you have to buy Baan Tools which are
expensive, let's say 30 000 $ and you don't have any codes. If you buy
Axapta you have the whole Axapta code, almost everything. 90 percent of
codes are availabe and you can learn very fast having a lot of
examples. I don't know the price for the programming Tools.
The choice is difficult, where are you from? Do you have Baan partners
and Axapta partners in your country? What packages are you going to
use, how many employees do you have in your company? write something
more, maybe I will have any recomendations.

If you have any questions, just ask :-)
