Hello,
Today I have a seagate STT63200P on parallel port which I am incapable to
put on and use it with e-smith!. It works perfectly with W95 and Backup exec
software !
I have two ways :
* One idea (or method) to connect the actual tape driver on
e-smith or
Great, I didn't know about that and apparently it's working fine now. I will
definitely prefer this method over my old one where I set up some hosts
manually and left the others (majority) for DHCP.
The problem that I found seems to be the dhcpd restart after modifying the
host table:

I strongly recommend it too. From the point of view of a small to mid size
business lan, You would be mad not to uses DHCP. Why go

Why would you wanna add NetBEUI of all protocol's ?
NetBEUI is old, Slow and really no longer used.
Setup TCP/IP and try pointing the Win2000 boxes at the WI
The cable it turns out during some testing is to do with the mode of the
UPS.
A "smart serial UPS" needs a different cable than a "dumb serial" UPS.
We had a APC Smart UPS 1000 and the cable that came with it (Dark grey)
would make a signal appear with powestatd even if the other end wasn't

Are these Win2k Server machines? (I also note that there are no WinNT
machines mentioned as part of your network). If so, EVERY Win2k Server is a
Domain Controller (there are no such beasts as PDCs or BDCs in a Win2k
environment).
I was going to suggest (with Dan) that Samba may

NO!! You do NOT need to do this and doing so will actually only add to the
problems. NetBIOS name resolution works perfectly fine over TCP/IP.

Ben this is really an experienced user phorum question - you will find you
answer there. Any UPS with serial cable link will do - make your
decision based on the power demands of the system. There is an
excellent contrib for the powstatd ups monitor program available and I've

If you have win9x and winNT machines you'll have to add the NetBEUI protocol
to the network settings of all the machines...

I apologize that the following problem may not be related to e-Smith
installations or this discussion group, but I'm not sure if Linux / e-Smith
is the cause. I encountered a problem when I first added a couple of
Win2000 machines to my network of assorted operating systems. I found the
Hi all,
I'm looking at Uninterruptible Power Supplies for several independent
workstations (Winbloze -- 250W) and a Linux server

Obviously I would prefer a brand whose products are Linux friendly (or
