A few weeks ago someone asked about a way to develop SME apps on a
standard Redhat-7.3 system and of course WMWare was the suggested way.

I came across an interesting alternative that I would be more than happy
to work with anybody on developing for E-Smith.

At IBM DeveloperWorks there is a tutorial on setting up UML
(User-Mode-Linux) and the home page is for the uml is
http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/

Essentially it is linux on linux and allows a virtual linux running on
linux. Supposedly you can run any distribution on top of another
distribution.

Examples are tomsrrtbt (toms root boot) debian on slackware, debian on
redhat, redhat-7.2 on a redhat-8.0, etc.

It might be nice to st up a HOWTO/package for esmith 5.1.2/5.5/5.6 on
redhat 7.3.

If anybody is interested in working on this with me, please feel free to
let me know.

Regards,

John Cusick
