I'm pleased to announce the availability of RPMs for PHP 4.1.1 in my
contrib directory at e-smith.org,
ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/contrib/DanBrown/. These are
available in i386, i586, and i686 packages (though not all the i686
RPMs have made it over yet).

These RPMs were made by taking the php-4.1.1-1.src.rpm file from
rawhide and compiling it under RedHat 7.1, after removing support for
curl, DOM, and pspell (since these were causing dependency issues I
didn't want to deal with, and aren't required for anything I use PHP
for). The system I built these on did have the latest gcc and glibc
updates (2.96-85 and 2.2.4-19.3, respectively). I've also had the
stock RH7.1 libtools-libs uploaded--for reasons that aren't entirely
clear to me, PHP now seems to depend on this.

These RPMs have received very minimal testing. I've installed them
on a stock SME 5.1.2 machine, and they appear to work (where "work"
== "phpinfo page shows version 4.1.1"). Probably not a good idea to
use these on a production machine without doing some testing of your
own. Hope they help somebody.
