Gentlemen,

I know this question is not standard for here, but I have checked the
experts and general forum and there are no references to this. (ping) or
snmpd. Also it is critical for some development addons I'm working on.

If someone can answer off this list I would appreciate it.

I can't ping anywhere from the server, only workstations. Is this
normal, and if so, why? (5.6 by the way) The reason I checked this is
because I want to use cacti and check certain connections and the ping
functions don't work. Also, for troubleshooting connections in general,
ping is a critical tool.

I'm not strong in iptables. I've looked at iptables -L and as far as I
can tell everything looks fine.

The primary reason I first noticed this is because I want to use the
snmpd daemon and I cannot do an snmpwalk on the server. I added:

ACCEPT udp -- anywhere anywhere udp spts:snmp:snmp-trap

to the rules, but still no dice. I always get "no response from server",
but netstsat says that the snmp daemon is listening. Since snmpwalk
works fine on my standard 7.3 system (same snmpd setup) I figure it has
to be iptables when considered with the ping problem.

Any help or suggestions off-forum would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

John Cusick
