Matthew, please do me a favor and stop characterizing my opinion on things,
because whenever you do you almost always manage to get it completely
wrong.  If I have an opinion on something I am very capable of expressing
it myself, that way people can be sure that they're getting my actual
opinion, not your (frequently pejorative) version of what I think or
thought in the past.

I have been using Semantic Versioning (http://semver.org/) on a few
projects and found it to be a good approach.
