I agree that it's NO USE to retry the request.  I disagree that calling
this a "fatal error" makes sense to the casual freenet user  (although,
ok, the casual freenet user will probably use the "simple" mode anyway and
this is an "advanced" mode error message).

Anyway, the main point wasn't really that saying "fatal error" was in any
way incorrect; it was that the message (particularly the first sentence)
was barely intelligible.  Did you read my suggested alternative wording? 
What did you think of it?

"The freesite container does not contain the key you are trying to fetch. 
This is a permanent error.  If possible, try and inform the maintainer of
the freesite you are browsing".
