Sometimes the problem of the divide isn't vertical (have vs. have-not)
computers, but, rather, horizontal, and there the issues are so much more
painful and regressive it's hard to compare. Sure they've got computers, but
still use phone modems and only email; sure the college has got computerized
Yes! This is something that came up several times in my work with CTCNet
Chicago. The Digital Divide is seen as "bridged" because of the
circumstantial evidence available: teenagers from poor communities using
ipods in school, having cell phones, and using MySpace, for example. It
doesn't help that
digital divide by providing
access to technology for children.
