I was just talking with Ken WB6MLC today. Ken has been leading the
HFpack Digital Voice project, which has recently increased the DV
activity on 40m (and 80m) significantly. This group of DV ops, in
mostly western part of USA/Canada is now meeting on the following
frequencies:
Digital Voice 40 me
Looking forward to the upcoming week for ALE ON THE AIR WEEK 2006 (13-23
OCT)
In preparation for this I have done the following:

Never did see any traces on the waterfall that looked like they were
WinDRM. Saw some wavy lines that weaved back and forth across the
waterfall, but were never completely vertical, and even had a group of
about 12 vertical lines!

Well I was able to print out Andy's fairly long message on 7166 LSB.
Also, could copy message from Tony, KT2Q. Also, worked Tony and KB3MOW
on LSB voice, but no go on DV.
So the text messages don't seem to require all that much signal. Maybe 3
to 5 db above the noise?

Good point, the WinDRM web site suggest
Suggested Frequencies:
80 Meters:
3.733
That part of the band is listed for "CW, RTTY, DATA" but the usual
convention for digital voice is to use the SSB analog voice frequencies
which would put it above 3750 .
I'll try 3759 for the next few tests.

I've only been on DV for a short time, but it's easy to see that it's not a
robust DX mode. As you mentioned, it would do much better on the upper HF
bands where it's easier to achieve the SNR needed for solid copy.
Decoding seems to get choppy when the SNR drops below 10db or so and it
