I lost my main ham hard disk and am rebuilding my machine using Vmware
Server - which is available for free. I have Ubuntu 6.06 LTS ( which is
supported by vmware) desktop running on the raw hardware, and have installed
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS server on top of that - and am running my LAMP web server

This approach is certainly one that could be taken. The difficulty with
using inverters and then using the AC power supply is the rather large
losses you incur. I am expecting that there is at least a 30 to 40%
loss of batter power in doing the double conversions.

Frank,
Just downloaded the file and set it up. Looks interesting. Will test
with anyone who wants to test. Best would be 20 meters somewhere
around 14.069.500 plus 1000Hz (audio).

No, but you can bet their will be a grey market of 100 dollar laptops

For now there is not enough volume for other sales, but eventually we
can expect it to be available. One proposal had been suggested (but I
don't think implemented) to require a buyer to pay $200 for two laptops
and then they would get one and the other would go to a developing nation.

I bought one of these via ebay from UK, but I have not had the time to start it

In the box there was the computer, a touch screen, a keyboard and a cd with

The HP Jornada 720 I am testing with PocketDigi has a 12v jack on it. I
haven't tried it on 12v yet as the plug is a little smaller than QRP
standard but the power supply is a 12v switcher. 640x200 screen, sound
card (mono, as Vojtech points out), full but small keyboard.

I spoke with one of the choef designers, and he told me the sound card
is stereo and DC coupled. I believe it could do SDR and PSK.

They plan to make the kid-distribution ones a distinctive color and

digerati given the stigma that would develop, and the laptops are really

A lot of notebooks have 12 volt adapters for use in cars, trains, and
airplanes. I am not sure if they natively use 12 volt but it is in the input
power. I am thinking about getting a 12 volt adapter for remote psk 31 work
without having to have an inverter. The nice thing is that the power
Thanks to all of the conversations here I decided to order a 12 volt adapter
for my Panasonic cf-29. It's not has good as having a true 12 volt computer
but certainly better then using an inverter.

The one problem with this particular laptop is that it would be too
underpowered for amateur digital programs. Of course it would be OK as a
modest terminal.
Looking at the spec. I must say that I don't agree - I am sure it will run

Walt,
I used it and tested it a year or so ago, it works as advertised. It
essentially formats NTS-Type messages and allows you to use PSK31 or
PSk63.
Hi, Bob. I did a lot of work on it this weekend, and apparently
either the cable or the Rascal was defective. Another cable in the same
position worked fine, and another sound card showed the same results.
Buxcomm is sending me a new unit, so I expect it'll be working fine when
I get it!
Jim,
Please note some of the 192 hits were from me or too me.
None of them address how QPSK63 was eplementation in FNpsk...did it use the
originator's code or modify it? Well it did modify it and added an error
free
capability.
What I am looking for is a technical description of FNpsk.
Back in June 2005, Andy and I did some tests with FNpsk. I can't exactly
remember how the ARQ works, other than sending a sizeable block and then
requesting a retry if it doesn't get the right checksum?
There did not seem to be any interest from other group members at the
time. From some
