en you're ready to make some digital contacts. I've
chatted with quite a few hams in LA on both digital and phone... maybe we'll
get lucky and meet up on a good path.

I used to think of the 817 as a play toy but with my 87' long wire and Dentron
Jr tuner I'm solid on 75m phone, 80m digi and both phone and digi on 40m... the
bread and butter HF bands for emcomm.
If I didn't know any better, I'd guess
they few offenders were processing their audio through a megaphone to a hand
mic.

Andy,
I've seen some CO psk signals that would beat that by a mile.

Interesting suggestions, Skip.
We're hoping to be installing UHF and VHF vertical yagi's at the Skyview Radio
Society before winter sets in. I'll be sure to do some weak signal work with
the DominoEx 8 as you suggest.

you change your sound card or switch to a USB mic. Here's a video I made on

Do you suppose they're running their RTTY station in such a way that they can
neither hear or see a signal?

You can have situations where nearby signals mix and cause interference on the
input, too. It was amazing to me that the noise problems we had got right past
the CTCSS.

It's just common sense and common courtesy.

BTW, I find the CW contesters to be less likely to QRM. And if they do, it

I don't think anyone should suggest limiting to contests to fixed frequencies,
but it damn sure would be nice if some of the mindless RTTY contesters would
start showing some common courtesy by listening a second or two before stomping
on QSO's in progress.

It was good to see a few of the 13 Colonies stations on PSK.
I wish more of the special event stations would work digital. It would really
open it up to the low profile stations.

Jaak,
Overdriving your audio into the rig causes your intended transmitted audio in
the passband to go non-linear and put images out all over the waterfall.

Besides being a great drill and practice should we need to intercommunicate
with the military during a major emergency, the event is a lot of fun and is a
great way to show our support for the military.
I'd highly encourage all to participate.
