Well, I work on multiple platforms that all share common functionality
that were each launched a year apart and redesign ever 2 years or so. 
Although I agree that fixing design problems is neccesary on occasion,
the key is stay constantly focused on an interative development
process.  With an integrated continuous improvement model built into
your procedures, design issues can be limited and "enhancements" as
I like the call bugs can be more each dealt with.

One of the unique struggles with multi-system parallel development is
that there is always a better solution around the corner and if
properlly coded, these upgrades can be done with limited resources
and planning.
