Title: Senior Interaction Designer - Contract
Location: SF Bay Area - 30 minutes from SF
Duration: 3 months or more, 40 hours per week
Contract Rate: Flexible / DOE

A progressive, fast-paced mobile-technology startup is searching for a contract Senior Interaction Designer to serve as a user-experience lead for assigned projects and contribute to the company's core product design definition. The ideal candidate is a self-guided, creative professional with strong exposure to user-centered design methodology who has worked in a startup environment with similar websites and/or services. This role requires seven years of experience designing consumer Web-based products or applications. Some experience with financial services and Visio and/or familiarity with mobile applications is a big plus. This hands-on role offers an opportunity to have a real impact on a dynamic website and its progressive, exciting mobile technology.

Responsibilities:
* Apply user-centered design methodologies to create high-quality interactive experiences that drive consumer engagement, adoption and usage * Specify user needs by gathering primary and secondary research (market and competitive research, site metrics, voice-of-the-customer, industry trends and user-experience best practices) * Work closely with the product-development team to synthesize business requirements * Create information architecture and interaction design documents, including site maps, concept diagrams, user profiles, user scenarios, wireframes, task flows and template guidelines * Conduct usability testing to validate Web and mobile-design solutions; apply research findings * Mentor team members; educate the project team on user-experience best practices

Requirements:
* Five to seven years of experience designing consumer Web-based products or applications
* Background of working in a startup and with similar sites and/or services
* Experience in financial services and mobile technology
* Proven background using Web-analytics data to inform design decisions and measure design impacts of user behavior * Direct experience with usability testing (e.g., observation and analysis, test-script creation, moderating) * Applied knowledge of user-centered design principles and interaction-design best practices and standards * Deep experience working with product-development teams and understanding and translating business requirements * Ability to ask appropriate questions and persuasively convey design solutions to a broad range of stakeholders (marketing, product management, business development, engineering, executive management and others)
* Facility in leading design of complex transactional interfaces
* Demonstrated ability to develop big ideas and execute flawlessly against them in a highly collaborative environment * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet aggressive deadlines
* A portfolio of design documentation
