Title: Senior User Interface and Interaction Designer - Social Networking
Location: San Jose, CA
Compensation: To low 100's + stock

A leading social networking site with over 12 million registered users and the highest average visit time among all social media web sites is seeking a Senior UI and Interaction Designer to handle a combination of hands-on design work and leadership opportunities. The Senior UI and Interaction Designer will work with the UI team to improve core existing features of the site (including message boards, art arenas, stores, profiles and journals) and to introduce new features. This is a great opportunity to join an exciting company as it forges ahead in the realms of new media, social networking and virtual gaming.

The ideal candidate will have a background that includes: leading the design for one or more complex web-based services and a broad understanding of the methods for their creation; more than four years of UI-design experience; experience with social networking and Web 2.0 applications; and an ability to collaborate with other creatives, engineering staff and product management.

Responsibilities:
* Help make the Web site easier and more intuitive (and more fun) to use
* Assess current site features and usage patterns
* Draft high-level user flow and navigation systems
* Create conceptual designs and page functionality and flows
* Assist with driving methodology and promoting good UI patterns
* Help define and communicate the broader vision of the site and apply that to each feature

Requirements include:
* More than four years of user-interface design experience
* Experience leading the design for one or more complex Web-based services and a broad understanding of the methods for their creation (including participatory design and rapid prototyping) * Expertise in HTML, Javascript and CSS plus strong graphic-design, conceptual-design, collaborative and organizational skills * Demonstrated experience designing simple, usable, consumer-oriented, Web-based interfaces
* Proof of exceptional and innovative interface-design work
* A strong understanding of visual design and how it can shape and influence user interfaces
* A thorough understanding of human factors and usability best practices
* A basic understanding of how Web-based presentation-layer technologies work, including DHTML, Flash and AJAX (an ability to write code is not needed)
* Dedication to detail and deadlines
* Ability to balance multiple projects, keep an overview of the bigger picture and make strategic decisions * Able to effectively negotiate interactions between designers and engineers * Enjoy leading and motivating others and being part of a fun-loving, hard-working team
* Good sense of humor
* M.S. degree in human-computer interaction or related field preferred; B.S. degree in either Computer Science or Graphic Arts a plus
