There is an initiative to merge these icons into a single standard
icon (like RSS and OPML) that acts as a single display point for a
bunch of bookmarking providers, that essentially provide the same
functional benefit.

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts (or even better, research) about the
use of those little social bookmarking/sharing icons that are now so
ubiquitous. Are people using them? Do *you* use them? Are they appropriate for
all types of sites? They seem best suited to news sites an
